Why aren't all commands of the Prophet treated as obligatory?
Muslims are commanded by Allah(SWT) to obey Him and His Messenger without exception: > O you who believe, obey Allah, the Messenger, and those in command > among you. Muslims are commanded by Allah(SWT) to obey Him and His Messenger without exception: > O you who believe, obey Allah, the Messenger, and those in command > among you. If you disagree about something, refer it back to Allah and > the Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the > best thing to do and gives the best result. > > **Surat an-Nisa`: 59** But I find differences in opinion among scholars on some issues whether it is obligatory or sunnah. Like in the case of shaving the beard: > Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, > "Trim the moustaches and let the beard grow." > > **Al-Bukhari and Muslim **. Here the Prophet() is commanding as it seems from the text, but still there is a difference in opinion. Similarly, the below hadith also seems like a command, but most scholars interpret it as makrooh: > Narrated by Jabir bin `Abdullah: > > The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever has eaten garlic or onion should keep > away from us (or should keep away from our mosque).' > > **Sahih al-Bukhari 5452** So, the verdicts on whether a command by the Prophet is obligatory vary. How is this methodology of usool-ul-fiqh compatible with the Ayat above and other similar ayats in the Qur'an?

Some parents tell their girls (say aged 5 and upwards) to wear the headscarf when out for example in a non Muslim school in a non Muslim country. Is this right in Islam or should it only be enforced at her first menses and onset of puberty?

Is there an equivalent to the Christian "inner witness of the Holy Spirit" in Islam?

In Christianity, one of the most common reasons Christians appeal to to justify their belief in Christianity is the so-called "inner witness of the Holy Spirit". William Lane Craig, a renowned Christian apologist, [puts it this way](https://www.reasonablefaith.org/question-answer/P50/the-witness-of-the-holy-spirit) (emphasis mine): > [...] These bothers and sisters endured horrible oppression and atheistic indoctrination by the Marxist regime and yet did not abandon Christ. As I emphasized in my answer to Question #13, evidence varies from generation to generation and from place to place and is accessible only to those privileged few who have the education, leisure time, and resources to explore it. **God has provided a more secure basis for our faith than the shifting sands of evidence and argument, namely, the indwelling Holy Spirit**. > > Moreover, **this conclusion seems in line with New Testament teaching on the witness of the Holy Spirit**. While non-believers reject New Testament teaching, Christians should take it seriously. Ponder, then, John's words: > > **And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth**. . . . **If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son** (1 John 5:6-10). > > **As Christian believers we have the testimony of God living within us, the Holy Spirit, whose testimony exceeds in force all human testimony**. > > So in answer to your question, Kyle, I think that in fact God will not allow someone to be in a position in which the rational thing for him to do is to reject God and Christ and separate himself from God. Given that God is essentially all-loving, I'm inclined to say that such a thing will not only never happen, but that it is, indeed, impossible. It follows that Christians who have apostatized have done so in defiance of the Holy Spirit's work by quenching or grieving the Spirit, so that what they did was in the end irrational. > > Does that imply, Adam, as your sceptic says, that I think "evidence is unimportant when compared with faith?" No, because he's drawing a false contrast, comparing apples with oranges. Faith is not the issue here, but the ground for faith. Must the ground for faith be evidence? That is the question. We've already seen that evidentialism is bankrupt. Many of the things we know are not based on evidence. So why must belief in God be so based? **Belief in God and the great truths of the Gospel is not a blind exercise of faith, a groundless leap in the dark. Rather, as Plantinga emphasizes, Christian belief is part of the deliverances of reason, grounded in the inner witness of the Holy Spirit, which is an objective reality mediated to me from God**. > > What is true is that evidence, as it is defined in these discussions, plays a secondary role compared to the role God Himself plays in warranting Christian belief. Should we, then, ignore strong evidence if it shows that our faith is probably false? Of course not! My work as a philosopher exemplifies the effort to confront objections to Christian belief squarely and to answer them. But most Christians in the world don't have that luxury. For them they may have to hold to their Christian belief even though they lack an answer to the alleged defeater. **What I insist on is that, given the witness of the Holy Spirit within them, they are entirely rational in so doing**. **Question**: Is there an equivalent to the "inner witness of the Holy Spirit" in Islam? Does Allah provide a supernatural means for Muslims to reach 100% epistemological certainty that Islam is true, without having to be an expert in Islam apologetics, in a manner equivalent or similar to the "inner witness of the Holy Spirit" of Christianity?

Salaam, I have a small issue with the niyat i made a long time ago. Last year i put some outdoor lights in my neighbour to help my community to cross the path at night as it is the shared path by 7 houses. It was so dark that kids cried at night with their parents when they passed through that path. However each house as their own outdoor light which they dont want to turn on. Therefore, my wife asked me to put 5 lights in that path so everyone will feel ok crossing this path and ask me to do niyat as "We are doing it to for good cause and Allah will be happy from us to show light in the darkness". Now i want to take one off from it and want to use it for my home. Can i use it in my house or i shouldnt use it in my house because of niyat? She said you cant use it as I have done niyat in the past. Please help with your knowledge.

I am in a really troubled state of mind right now. Things are not going right in my life. I know that it is haram to harm oneself, but the thought of slitting myself on my wrists, forearms, neck, thighs, legs, torso and other parts is coming to my mind nowadays. Please suggest any dua or hadith or anything to improve my condition. And please make dua for me, it's a sincere request to everyone here. If there is any dua, hadith, ayah from the Noble Qur'an to help me calm down and bring peace to my heart, then please please, for the love of Allah SWT, suggest it to me. And please, as a final request, do not use rough language in the answers.

Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh I remembered that I have backbitten my parents and sisters and I really know how wrong and how unfair it is, I want to repent but I can't tell them about it and apologies because I'm sure it will cause big problems and break their hearts and I don't want that, but the most important part of repentance is regret, and I use to feel regret from the depths of my heart but now I stopped feeling regret and the problem is that I repeated that sin, so do I have to re-new my repentance? And does backbiting your family and not feeling regret make the situation worse which may lead to that Allah will not forgive me unless I apologise to them? But I always make the best dua for them and I make them happy and I hell them and support them so would this + not getting back to this sin + regretting it alone be good enough without apologising? I really can't teLloyd them I was backbiting them please help And is saying mean things in your head about someone considered backbiting? And would you please tell me how to feel regret? I'm so sorry for the trouble May Allah bless all those who help me and make them as hapPygocentrus as they are going to make me feel and even more happy in this dunya and in the afterlife Jasakumu Allah alf Khair

I have a lot of knowledge about Islam but what I doubt is about that Will Hazrat Isa (A.S) come back with all his power like Resurrecting someone by the permission of Allah or making a blind see etc. I know that He will have the power to kill the disbelievers and dajjal with his breath or with his vision as far as He can see.
