For the past couple of days, I have been trying to understand Eid-Ul-Adha and its history in deep detail; this question is part of that understanding I am trying to have. I am trying to understand the true purpose of Eid-Ul-Adha celebrations. Below are three of the purposes that I have come across:- 1. It is done to commemorate the happenings of Prophet Ibrahim. But nowhere in Quran it is specifically mentioned that do sacrifice animals to commemorate the happenings of Prophet Ibrahim. Also nowhere it is mentioned how this Sunnah of Ibraheem started. Also I can not find a satisfactory answer as to why Allah asked Prophet Ibraheem in the first place to sacrifice his son. > https://quran.com/2/196?translations=20
https://quran.com/5/2?translations=20
https://quran.com/22/28?translations=20
https://quran.com/22/34?translations=20

https://quran.com/37/107?translations=20
https://quran.com/37/107?translations=20
https://quran.com/16/123?translations=20
Above are some of the references in the Quran where it has been talked about the sacrificing of animals but nowhere it has been explicitly mentioned to do this to commemorate the happenings of Prophet Ibrahim. 2. Another purpose that I have been told is that by sacrificing an animal, Allah wants to check one's willingness and piety to sacrifice a loved one in the name of Allah but this is not applicable as nowhere a sacrifice of an animal can be compared with the sacrifice of a human being. It does not even come close to that as many people nowadays do not have even keep sacrificial animals as pets for a long time. They just buy it a week ago and sacrifice the animal. Also, there are permissions that you can have another person sacrifice the animal for you which again kills the purpose. You can still choose not to look at the sacrifice of animals again killing the purpose. 3. Somewhere I read that animals are sacrificed on this day to mark the end of the Hajj but again this applies to the people who have gone for the Hajj and not to those who are sitting afar. The below surah mentions the same if I am not wrong. > https://quran.com/2/196?translations=20 Please clarify!

How do I reply to the criticism of Islam for the law of capital punishment for apostasy?
The punishment for apostasy in Islam is execution. The Western world mocks Islam for this. They say that they are more peaceful as they don't interfere with someone's personal life, blah blah blah. How should a Muslim reply to the accusation/mockery/criticism against Islam to shut them up?

I am currently doing a course on world religions at my university and this question is regarding research for one of my assignments that I have due. I couldn’t find anything on Google so I decided to ask here. I am trying to find a Quran verse (or a Hadith) that clearly talks about the marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man and the ruling on such an interfaith marriage. Does anyone have a reference? Also, I need help to understand the ruling, and why Muslim men are allowed to marry Christian and Jewish women but not vice versa. Apologies in advance if my question is taboo or offends anyone, I’m not Muslim, so I want to gain some insight into this ruling.

Fornication (like incest) and homosexuality are punishable by death under Sharia laws. But, as I understand it, forgiveness and repentance are an integral part of the Sharia legal system. For example, a terrorist or thief or a rapist can be repentant and beg forgiveness from their victim(s). And if the victim(s) forgive (with or without due compensation), the criminal can be pardoned completely under Sharia laws without additional punishment. Likewise, a husband too can forgive a wife for adultery. In all these cases, there is one or more perpetrator(s) and victim(s). Thus, the guilty can turn to someone to seek forgiveness. But what about cases of homosexuality or fornication (between consenting) adults where there are no clear victims? (I guess you can consider them to be the victims of their own circumstances). In such a case, is there no scope in Sharia for forgiveness? If not, why? If yes, who has that power and is there any defined method to exercise it?

Islam Q&A says that the Prophet "forbade [travelling alone] in several ahaadeeth" without making reference to one's gender (although there is nuance to their post). I also found this post: > In times of insecurity and war, in long journeys, the Prophet, pbuh, ordained that a woman should travel with her husband or a male relative. This was meant to help the woman and to provide security, not to put the woman under the control of her husband... -- Kaukab Siddique , New Trend Mag, 2009. I'm not sure what to make of this.

One day (in winter) an imam came from the next close city (about 20-25kms away) and held the Friday Khotba in the mosque I was at. Afterwards he said we will inchallah pray the 'Asr now as it is raining and as I'm travelling you'll need to go ahead and complete the 4 raka's. I was asking myself first he is not travelling -but that's his matter- as he comes from a close city and secondly how could he say it was raining while the rain actually stopped and was not even heavy? Does this mean we can join prayers just because it was raining at that day even if it was no more raining? So my question is how careful or how extensively can one construe or interpret the ahadith (See for example the hadith displayed below) allowing joining two prayers due to rain? > Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) combined the noon prayer with the afternoon prayer and the sunset prayer with the 'Isha' prayer in Medina without being in a state of danger or **rainfall**. And in the hadith transmitted by Waki' (the words are): " I said to Ibn 'Abbas: What prompted him to do that? He said: So that his (Prophet's) Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship." And in the hadith transmitted by Mu'awiya (the words are):" It was said to Ibn 'Abbas: What did he intend thereby? He said he wanted that his Ummah should not be put to unnecessary hardship." (Sahih Muslim ) What are the positions of scholars on this matter?

In the sunnah of the prophet, it is known that he would on occasion combine his *salawat*, especially when not doing so would cause hardship (e.g., travelling). For example, the following practice was narrated by Ibn Abbas: > The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed the noon and afternoon prayers together, and the sunset and Isha' prayers together without being in a state of fear or in a state of journey.
