**Is Sunni versus Shia the main division within Islam?** I've heard this many times, but I don't trust everything I hear. Also, are there any groups in Islam which see itself as separate from both Sunnis and Shias, and sees those two groups as belonging to a larger group? For a Christian analogy, I've heard that the Russian Orthodox Church split off from the Roman Catholic Church before the Roman Catholic Church split into Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The Russian Orthodox Church would see Roman Catholicism and Protestantism as belonging to the same group.

What's the overlap between Sufi Muslims and Sunni and Shiite Muslims?

A Pew Poll has given the percentages of Sunnis, Shiites, and those who identify as "just a Muslim" throughout the world. Each of these is considered mutually exclusive by the pollster. Then it says: >For some Muslims, another layer of identity comes from membership in a Sufi order. ... These orders can fall within either Sunni or Shia Islam. It then gives the percentages of Sufis in various countries, as it had for Sunnis and Shiites. But it doesn't really give an idea of the overlap between them. Have any polls or studies said how many Sufi Muslims also adhere to Sunnism or Shiism?

Divorce in case of Shia Sunni Couple

My friend who is Shia got married with a Sunni girl. The father of the girl gave in writing that he is not responsible for the girl and she has all the rights to spend her life as per her wish and will (it was a love marriage). After court marriage the boy took her to his house where again Nikah was performed as per Shia rules. After few months the couple felt that it was a wrong decision. One day the boy gave her tallaq (the boy said afterwards to the family that he was joking as there was no witness). What is the concept of tallaq in Shia Islam once it is given as mentioned above? Thanks.

Unless I'm mistaken about the meaning of nawafil in Shiite context, I'm a bit confused about why Sunnah prayers for Sunnis are nawafil for Shiites. From this site: > Misconception #4: Shias do not perform sunnah prayers. Sunnah prayers are non obligatory prayers performed by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.). > Response: Shia do perform non-obligatory prayers, 36 cycles per day in total, but call it nawafil and not sunnah. Sunnis have both nawafil and sunnah prayers. So, what is the difference? Why are Sunni sunnah prayers nawafil for Shiites?

In the following hadith: > ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab who said: “I heard Hishaam ibn Hakeem reciting Soorat al-Furqaan in a manner different from that in which I used to recite it and the way in which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught me to recite it. I was about to argue with him whilst he was praying, but I waited until he finished his prayer, and then I tied his garment around his neck and seized him by it and brought him to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, I heard this man reciting Soorat-al-Furqaan in a way different to the way you taught it to me.’ The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him, ‘Recite it,’ and he recited it as I had heard him recite it. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘It was revealed like this.’ Then he said to me, ‘Recite it,’ so I recited it and he said, ‘It was revealed like this.’ This Qur'aan has been revealed in seven different ways, so recite it in the way that is easiest for you.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2287; Muslim, 818) ln the part where one of them says: > This Qur'aan has been revealed in seven different ways, so recite it in the way that is easiest for you. Who said it? Umar (رضي الله عنه) or the Prophet (صلى الله عليه واله وسلم)? Jazakum Allah khayran

Will only hassan and hussain be masters of youth in paradise?
The hadith reported by Ahmad, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Maajah and An-Nasaa’i, it was narrated by Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri may Allaah be pleased with him who said: “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: **''Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn are the masters of the youth of Paradise...
The hadith reported by Ahmad, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Maajah and An-Nasaa’i, it was narrated by Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri may Allaah be pleased with him who said: “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: **''Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn are the masters of the youth of Paradise.”** Shaykh Al-Albaani may Allaah have mercy upon him classified it as Saheeh [sound]. The hadith doesnt negate other people from holding the title "masters of youth". The hadith doesnt rule out third son of Ali and fatima, muhsin. Provided there is consensus (ijma) which says **muhsin will be in paradise**. Imaam al-Nawawi said: the reliable Muslim scholars agreed that **any Muslim child who dies will be among the people of Paradise,** because he was not responsible (i.e., had not yet reached the age of account). (Sharh Muslim, 16/207). So the question is do we have other masters of youth in paradise?

Who went around the Kabah naked before Prophet Muhammad forbade it?
I was reading the Qur'an (in English) and stumbled upon this: > And when they commit a Fahisha (evil deed, **going round the Kabah in naked state**, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.), they say: "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has commanded us of it." I was reading the Qur'an (in English) and stumbled upon this: > And when they commit a Fahisha (evil deed, **going round the Kabah in naked state**, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.), they say: "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has commanded us of it." Say: "Nay, Allah never commands of Fahisha. Do you say of Allah what you know not? -- Qur'an 7:28 , Muhsin Khan & Muhammad al-Hilali translation This took me quite aback; people were doing a kind of "nudie run" (in Australian slang) around Islam's most sacred site. (And it's not something I would expect would happen frequently in Saudi Arabia, either). I tracked it to this hadith: > ... Abu Bakr sent me along with other announcers to Mina to make a public announcement: "**No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba.** ... -- Sahih al-Bukhari 369 (sunnah.com ) So apparently going around the Kabah naked was a thing until the Prophet forbade it. This raises the question as to who was actually doing this. **Question**: Who went around the Kabah naked before Prophet Muhammad forbade it?

Assalam-O-Alaikum Wrwb, I am a young Muslim man and I have found out that I have been "repenting and then repeating." By this, I mean I have been committing sin (I am abhorred to admit that I have watched some innapropiate things online) and then seeking forgiveness from My Lord, then for a while I stop that sin, but eventually I repeat the same sin. Often times I find myself depressed and extremely sad that I don't have the willpower to stop doing that sin and to stop lust, and I often think that because of my sinning, none of my dua have been accepted. This has been going on for around a year or possibly more. I've been making the same dua for that long time, but I've been sinning at the same time. Can somebody please give some guidance and help. Please make dua for my guidance, mercy from Allah (SWT,) the ability to stop watching, and for my dua to get accpeted. Jazakallah Khair.

Does Islamic finance normally apply to central banks, or is this a deviation from the usual application of the principles of Islamic finance?

Will there be any differences between the rewards for faithful men and women in Paradise according to Islam? If so, what are they?
Quran is specific about the kind of rewards faithful men would get in paradise. However, when I read the Quran I haven't found any clarity about what the faithful women would get in paradise.
