Authenticity of the prophets?

I have a question regarding the authenticity of the prophets. I do not mean to offend anyone, I’m just asking this to clear my own mind. How can we verify the prophets were truly sent by God, when all we have to verify their claim is the scriptures which the prophets themselves recited and noted down?
