What are the criteria for a saint becoming the Patron saint of something in the Catholic Church?

I’m quite curious - there are saints for almost every profession and/or hobby. Sometimes, these saints seemingly have no connection to the profession or hobby at all, like St. Isidore of Seville, who is from the Middle Ages, but was made the Patron saint of the Internet. So on Catholicism, what is the criteria?
